What is YPWD?

Younger People with Dementia, Berkshire West (YPWD), is a newly set up charity. Its aim is to ensure a seamless service for the treatment, day-to-day care, respite, education, long term care and end of life care for younger people with dementia across Berkshire West. A great many services are in place for those with dementia over the age of 65, but few for those below this age.

DEMENTIA AWARENESS WEEK - EVENTS IN WEST BERKSHIRE

CONTACT MARGARET OR KIM ON 01635 500870 FOR FURTHER DETAILS

  • Newbury Mayor-making ceremony: On Sunday 20th, Kim and Viv, our splendid volunteer, will don their Sunday best to represent us at the Newbury Mayor-making ceremony at the Corn Exchange.
  • Jubilee afternoon tea party: Camp Hopson Department Store in Newbury, who have chosen us as their charity to support for two years, have invited us to a Jubilee afternoon tea party on Wednesday 23rd (So popular that places are now full.  Email or call us to add your name to reserve list in event of anyone cancelling).
  • Kennet & Avon Canal trip: Courtesy of the Rotary Club of Newbury, a small group of people with memory loss who live alone will take a trip down the Kennet & Avon Canal on a barge on Thursday 24th (Again, places now full.  Email or call us to add your name to reserve list in event of anyone cancelling).
  • Advice and information stand:  Kim, Margaret, Karen & Viv, will 'man' a stand from 10am - 4:30pm in Camp Hopson's on Friday 25th for people to drop past for advice and information.
  • Plant sale:  Camp Hopson's will have a plant sale on Friday 25th to raise funds for us.  They are welcoming donations of any plants.  Please bring to the Slater Centre, our services, or drop them into Camp's.
  • Street collection:  Finally, we have a street collection in Newbury all day on Saturday 26th.  We remain VERY short of volunteers for this, particularly in the afternoon slots.  Please contact sophia.bentley@gmail.com or call me on 01635-500870 to volunteer to help for an hour or so.  If you value our work, please consider whether you might be able to give us a little of your time to raise awareness of this illness.
