"Watch out. Here comes St Trinians."

Purley members of the Alzheimer's Society undertook their own memory walk, and raised over £600.

The dress code was "St Trinians", and a variety of blazers, hats, ties and short white socks were to be seen. The "schoolgirl" walkers (and some wheelchair users) set out in lovely sunshine and received a lot of good wishes along the way.

"We did the memory walk too".

A gentle walk in the Lambourn Valley raised well over £700 for the Alzheimer's Society. And it was followed by tea/coffee and home made cake

The club is specifically for younger people with dementia and opened its doors in September. Members have been enjoying the great outdoors at local beauty spots, meeting up for pub lunches, playing skittles, cooking and gardening; and many more activities and trips are planned in the coming months! For further information, see the Diary page.

Two of the first course participants are pictured here and they have thoroughly enjoyed learning about computers, exercising their brains and their legs 3 mornings per week.

July2010 Cheque Presentation

Spirits soar after donation from British Airways.

BA Cabin Crew have donated £4,500 to Barkham Day Hospital, Wokingham, after raising the cash with their annual pantomime.  Members of the British Airways Cabin Crew Entertainment Society presented the cheque to services users at a ceremony in July.

The money will go towards the recruitment of a community support worker to help younger people with dementia.

July 2010 Cheque Presentation

To mark the start of Dementia Awareness Week at the beginning of July, Woodley Age Concern held an Independence Day garden party, which included dancing and music.

June 2010 Ben Nevis "Our Three Peaks Challenge is done!" Congratulations to Ruth, whose father developed a dementia in his early sixties, and her fiancé, Steve, who successfully made it up and down Snowdon, Scafell and Ben Nevis over the course of a Friday and Saturday at the end of June. They and the other Team members raised about £3000 pounds for the Alzheimer's Society and the Multiple Sclerosis Trust.
