It is recognised that not all people wish to participate in group activities or are able to access a group. We therefore provide 1:1 support so that people are encouraged to choose an activity that is of personal interest to them that can be carried out with the support of one of our respite workers.
Examples of 1:1 support are going for walks, going out for coffee or lunch, swimming, board games and attending local community projects. The 1:1 support has facilitated some individuals to volunteer for other charities such as Centre Point, thus promoting the individual’s sense of purpose but also enabling reciprocal support and learning. 1:1 support can lead to the individual then gaining the confidence to join a group, but in most cases it is offered where an individual has quite specific needs e.g. problems with sequencing or more severe impairment.
Referrals for 1:1 support are made through the completion of the referral form. These should then be sent via e-mail to email@example.com or via post for the attention of Charlie Draper, YPWD (Berkshire), Barkham Day Hospital, Wokingham Hospital, Barkham Road, Wokingham, RG41 2RE, marked "Private and Confidential".
